Photo Tips & Frostbite

This weekend we went on a little outing and before we knew it we had ventured out onto a frozen lake!

One of our friends got a new camera for Christmas so, of course, we had to get together and do a little photo shoot 😊🙃

It was so cold! 🥶

We went exploring in the canyon and ended up at pine view reservoir in Huntsville, Utah.

The lake was frozen solid and there were so many ice fishers!!

Who knew people actually go outside in the winter?! 😂 but I guess we were out there too so we can’t call them crazy.

And we got plenty of great shots! Like this beautiful tree covered in snow.

And this almost ominous shot of the shoreline…

We decided since we were going out and about we might as well convince our husbands to come and take some cute couples photos!

My wonderful friend, Ashley, from Gurr’s Gallery got some super cute shots of us!

Ashley specializes in nature and landscape shots so she wanted to try her hand at some portraits.

Don’t you think she did such a good job?! I do! 😊

And she and her husband are so adorable it wasn’t hard at all to capture their cute love on camera.

Portraits can be so much harder than nature/landscape because you have to pay attention to all the little details of your subject. For example you always want to make sure their hair and clothing are laying flat and in place, if not you’ll get the photos on your computer and be so disappointed that one strand of hair was weird in every picture!

Another thing you want to pay attention to are your camera settings and your focus. If you use auto focus you want to make sure you are focusing the camera then moving it to frame the picture how you want before you push the button all the way down to release the shutter.

In these shots I tried to get a little fancy with the focus to give the portraits a more artistic and dimensional feel.

And you always want at least a few shots where your subjects are looking right at the camera! In these shots I will focus on the eye/eyes to give it a nice crisp portait.

When capturing more of the environment I like to raise my f stop settings. This way I was able to capture the detail of the snow on the branches while still getting the portait subjects in focus 😊

I can’t wait to go out exploring some more!

I also can’t wait for some warm, green, and colorful shots in the spring…but for now I guess we will explore the winter wonderland all around us! ❤️❄️

Follow us on instagram for daily updates about our sometimes snowy always fun escapades!!

And as always thanks so much for dropping by! We love to share with all of you, comment and let us know what you think! Do you like the cold? Prefer summer shots? We’d love to know!

Until next time ⛄️
